Marpe Wellbeing

ADHD Clinic

Welcome to our ADHD clinic. At Marpe we believe in celebrating neurodiversity and helping neurodivergent individuals live the best they can. It is important to recognise the super abilties of neurodiverigent people – eg the ability to hyperfocus in some indivuals with ADHD. We also do not ignore where ADHD symptoms may impact day to day living and the place of non-pharmalogocal and pharmalogical pathways to help in these cases.

If you suspect you may have ADHD, affecting your daily activities, we are here to guide you through the assessment and treatment process.

Assessment Process

Our initial step involves a pre-screening questionnaire- commonly known as the ADHD Self Reporting Scale. If the results indicate ADHD traits, a formal assessment by with one of our psychiatrists experienced in ADHD may be recommended.

The comprehensive assessment is conducted , and we encourage the presence of a family member or someone from your childhood to provide additional historical context for a thorough evaluation.

Treatment Options

Our approach to ADHD treatment goes beyond prescribed medications, encompassing non-pharmacological methods and various support networks across the U.K. Here are key aspects of our treatment approach:

Prescribed Medications

We consider various prescribed medications based on careful assessment and monitoring. Please contact our team for information on hello@marpewellbeing.uk

Supportive Communities

Connect with self-help groups across the U.K. for additional support. These are based on your locality. Our friendly team aims to create a personalised list for you based on your location and preferences.

Non-Pharmacological Approaches

This can include structured supportive psychological interventions focused on ADHD. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) may be useful for some individuals.

Prescribed Medications

  1. Medical Evaluation: Typically, you will require an appointment to initiate medication, during which we will review results, discuss potential effects/side effects, and clarify any concerns. At this stage, a 2-week supply of medication will be issued.

  2. Medication Review/Titration Clinic: A follow-up review takes place at the 2-week mark to assess progress on the medication, particularly evaluating side effects and tolerability. At this point, a one-month prescription is issued.

  3. Titration Clinic:
For non-stimulants - A further review may be required after 4 weeks, with the option to discharge to an NHS GP under a shared care agreement, allowing the NHS GP to take over prescribing. Alternatively, we can continue to prescribe privately on a monthly basis.
In the case of stimulants, monthly titration is common; most adults stabilize on treatment within 4-8 weeks. If a change of medication is needed due to side effects or ineffectiveness, the titration process can take up to 12 weeks. Children typically require around 3 months on average to complete titration.
